The joy of a stay at Château Mirabel is that you can choose to do very little – or a lot!
If you are not sure how to pass the time at Château Mirabel, here is a taste of what your day may look like.
Wake up to the sound of birdsong and collect a selection of croissants, pain au chocolat and artisan bread from one of the local boulangeries in Puylaurens a 4 minute drive away.
Enjoy a quick dip in the Saltwater Swimming Pool, before enjoying breakfast on the terrace, admiring the rolling Tarn countryside views.
There’s a local market for every day of the week here, but as it is Saturday, we’re heading for Revel Market (one of the best). We’ll start at the covered section of the market where the local, artisan producers are based.
After a restorative cafe au lait, we’re heading to nearby Lake Ferreol. We could walk around the lake, or take a swim, but today we’re going to visit the fascinating museum based there, which tells the story of the Canal du Midi.
After an absorbing visit around the gardens and museum, we feel like we deserve a long and leisurely lunch and take advantage of the many cafes and restaurants opposite the Lake.
After a delicious lunch en plein air, we decide to head to the historic centre of nearby Castres. Don’t forget to use the Republique underground car park, so that you can take in the beautiful Jardin de l’Évêché (attributed to Le Notre) on the way in. We begin to search out some of the famous brocantes that are quietly tucked away.

A brief stop at Cafe Le Glacier for some obligatory people watching, then we’re heading home.
Back at Mirabel, we enjoy some refreshing Aperos (Consider Suze – it’s a retro classic) whilst participating in a surprisingly competitive game of Petanque as we discuss the day’s purchases. Have we got space in the car for any more Brocante finds?
We have dinner booked at a local restaurant in Puylaurens with gourmet food and a view that stretches for miles.
As the sun sets, we start to plan the next day. Is it Toulouse or Carcassonne?
There are eleven buses a day from the centre of Puylaurens to Toulouse?
The bus takes you directly to Les Argoulets Metro Station.
